Visit 4/5 of the Great Lakes At These Michigan Hotspots

Navigation:

No one is prouder of what Michigan State has to offer than we are. While people unfamiliar with the Mitten State may only associate us with Lake Michigan, you can visit the shores of four of the five great lakes without leaving the state! Take a trip (or a few) this summer and touch base with the Great Lakes!

Great Lakes At These Michigan Hotspots

Frankfort, Michigan

Frankfort is a great spot to visit Lake Michigan.

If you’re interested in beautiful lighthouses, this town has you covered. Point Betsie Lighthouse offers tours for those who want to see the inside. If not, you are welcome to snap a photo of the outside of the building and then play on the huge beach.

For a different lighthouse, check out The Frankfort Light. The walk out on the pier will get you up close with Lake Michigan and give you a unique view of the bay.

Frankfort Beach is where you’ll want to spend your beach time. This beach is large with great sand, lots of benches, public restrooms, and plenty of parking. It’s also an easy walk to town from here.

If you enjoy a scenic drive, do not miss the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. From inside your car, you’ll enjoy views of the sand dunes, Lake Michigan, and a covered bridge. There are picnic stops along the way. You want to grab food at Crescent Bakery, where they are most beloved for their pretzels and paninis, but also have a diverse selection of sweet treats.

If you’re looking for a nice dinner spot, stop in to Stormcloud Brewing Company, where they are famous for their flatbread pizzas.

Luna Pier, Michigan

Luna Pier itself is why you come here. This is the best spot to get a view of Lake Eerie. You might even catch sight of a freighter leaving Toledo.

Luna Pier Beach Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is the adorable place you’re looking for on a lake vacation, whether you’re in the mood for oven-baked chicken wings or some gelato.

If you’re in the mood for homemade pizza, check out Eddie’s by the Lake.
Gander’s Family Restaurant has that American diner feel, and if you stop in for breakfast, they have chicken fried steak with gravy.

Oscoda, Michigan

Oscoda Beach Park is the best place to enjoy Lake Huron. Walk on the pier, lay out on the sand, and have a beautiful beach day. If it’s a hot day, you can retreat to one of the many shaded areas. The park also has picnic tables, parking, and public restrooms, so it’s fully equipped for you to spend the whole day here if you wish.

If you’re in Oscoda on a summer weekend, visit Wurtsmith Air Museum. This is one of those museums that is difficult to forget and has something for the whole family. There are Vietnam era helicopters here, friendly staff, and a lot to learn. Your children will love having the chance to sit in an airplane and helicopter.

For a little piece of magic, visit Largo Springs. This special place has little streams and waterfalls tucked away in a beautiful forest. This is nature at its best.

Stop in for lunch at Tait’s Bill of Fare for soup and salad, or one of their many seafood options.

Munising, Michigan

There are so many things to do in Munising while you’re enjoying Lake Superior! The top of the list has to go to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. You can take a boat ride to get up close and truly take in the vivid colors. This is the best way to get the pictures you’ll want from this unforgettable trip.

While you’re there, visit Miners Castle Rock and Miners Falls. If you want to design your own waterfall tour, also check out Munising Falls, Wagner Falls, and Laughing Whitefish Falls.

For breakfast, check out Bay Furnace Bagel Works for unique takes on bagel sandwiches.
