Wyandotte

Navigation:

Around 1732, the Wyandot Indians or Native Americans followed Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac and his French troops to Detroit, Michigan. Their tribes settled down and made their homes along the banks of the Detroit River. It served as an ideal place for the Wyandot Indians; they had easy road access clean drinking water, and fertile ground for agricultural planting. The river provides the tribe good fish harvest, and access to Canada to communicate with their families and friends who chose to settle down in the Amherstburg region.

The Many Treaties of Wyandot

Not only had they developed a perfect place for their civilization to thrive, they also had a safe sanctuary from their enemies. The Wyandot Indians had deep old growth forests, separated from other tribes, and friendly relationships with white man. All of its government affairs took place in its Main Village called Gibraltar. The French called it “Maquaqua” or “Monguagon” as it serves as the headquarters for the Council House, Achieves, and International Council Fires.

The “Walk-in-the-Water” expression was derived from the Monguagon village’s turtle totem sign.  Established in a spacious lodge outside the village, later known as the west side of Biddle Avenue with its direction from north of Trenton. They lived in a peaceful community along with several white farmers exchanging trade and industry.

Wyandotte

However, due to intervening colonial wars, the Wyandot Indians were forced to sign a treaty agreement with the Potawatomi to war against the English. But a few years later, the government created several new treaties which made them move farther west. There, they built memorable houses, develop the land, and studied several simple types of equipment to enhance farming. In 1818, the government granted them4,996 acres (20 km2) of land on the Huron River through another treaty.

Their history made Wyandotte one of the most interesting places for a history buff to visit. With such rich background and multicultural influences, Wyandotte is someplace that’s full of surprises. Here are some of the best places to visit in the area.

The House of George P. MacNichol

Edward Ford, the son of the glass pioneer John Baptiste Ford hired Malcomson& Higginbotham in 1896. He wanted to build a luxurious home as a wedding gift for his daughter, Laura on her marriage to George P. MacNichol. MacNichol was a former medical doctor and a researcher for the improvement and advantage of both the Ford Plate Glass Company and the Michigan Alkali Company. The couple lived for seven years in the house before leaving to Toledo to be closer to their families.

The house was later purchased by a lawyer, Jeremiah Drennen. But in the 1970s, Yvonne Latta bought the house and was later acquired by the city of Wyandotte.

Uniroyal Giant Tire

The Uniroyal Giant Tire was the world’s largest non-production tire scale model ever made. Used a Ferris Wheel in New York during the 1960s, it was later relocated to Allen Park, Michigan along Interstate 94 for public display. Measuring 80 feet (24.4 m), 83 feet (25.3 m), and 86 feet (26.2 m) tall in the structures it can be seen between the Southfield Freeway interchange and Outer Drive overpass. The massive Uniroyal Giant Tire weighs about 12 short tons (11 t), is anchored in 24 feet (7.3 m) of concrete and steel, and can withstand hurricane-force winds.

“5 Amazing Campfire Recipes that Are Easy to Make”

Summer time is camping time. And now that it is camping season once again, it’s time to make some plans for a great outdoor adventure.

One of the best things about camping is the food. But most people—when talking about camping and food—can only think about s’mores. That’s not the only thing you can enjoy while camping. Here we’ve compiled a few easy camping recipes that you can enjoy with your friends and family, even while you’re out there running around the woods!

There are no solid rules when it comes to camping food. But there are ways to make it more convenient for you. That means food must be easy to make, easy to prepare, easy to eat, and easy to clean up.

You won’t have all your kitchen and dining tools with you when you’re out there gathered around the campfire. So you have to try and make it as accessible as possible.

This also means that you can go crazy with the recipes and mix them up as you see fit. Just because the food is easy to prepare doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Feel free to get creative with your recipes!

Here are a few amazing campfire recipes to get you started.

1. Camping Breakfast Sandwich (Lots of Variations)

Keeping it simple is the key to camping food. There are those that you can prepare on the fly, even when you’re already out there, and there are those that take some home preparation but are designed to be easy to consume.

The camping breakfast sandwich can be either of these, depending on you. This sandwich is the perfect breakfast for campers, as it is both delicious and filling. It will fuel you throughout the day.

It takes only 5 minutes to prepare, but 20 minutes to cook. Still, the total time is under an hour—and this recipe already serves 4 people. Not bad for a quick breakfast recipe, huh?

For this you’ll need 4 Bay’s Sourdough English Muffins, 2 cups of leftover BBQ pulled pork, 4 eggs, 4 slices of cheddar cheese, and butter. You may have noticed that the pork can be leftover—that’s just how convenient this recipe is. You can just raid your refrigerator and make something delicious.
Instructions

To make this camping sandwich, use a medium cast iron saucepan to crisp up the English Muffins with a bit of butter. Wait until it is golden and crispy, and then set aside. Next, reheat the leftover pork in skillet and set that aside for now.

Fry the eggs and set aside: you are now ready to assemble your sandwich. Simply fill the English Muffins with the pulled pork, add the eggs, and then top with cheese. Wrap the whole thing in foil.

When you’re ready to eat it, just place it over fire until the cheese is melted, and it’s ready to serve!

This is a very simple recipe that even uses leftover BBQ pulled pork. Prepare it on the night before your camping trip, and then cook it over the campfire for breakfast the following day.

2. No Mess Camping Burger

Here’s an alternative to the sandwich idea: a camping burger. Frankly, you can eat either of these for breakfast, lunch, or just as a heavy snack. This recipe is a great way to make burgers while camping, without the usual mess.

This recipe requires some preparation, but once they’re ready to go, all you have to do is pop them over the fire and wait for them to cook. You won’t need plates, bowls, and flatware. And you won’t have to carry around a grill.

The ingredients here are just your regular burger ingredients: buns and ground beef patties. The toppings and seasonings are entirely up to you. You can add cheese, vegetables, some tomato slices. This is one recipe where you’re free to define your burger.
Instructions

Place individual patties on a sheet of aluminum foil. The aluminum foil should be big enough to be folded over, fully enclosing the meat and toppings. Sprinkle your seasonings, add your vegetables (unless your toppings are lettuce and tomatoes, because those have to be added after cooking), and then wrap the foil around the whole thing. Do not leave any holes exposed.

Cooking this on a campfire will involve putting it on a bed of hot coals, and then covering it with another layer of coals. Do not touch them for at least 10 minutes, after which you can check one of the burgers to see if it has been cooked. It should be ready by then.

Serve and enjoy this juicy campfire burger with your family. You can try switching it up by using ground turkey patties instead of beef—they have a unique flavor that you might want to try.

This recipe is unique in that it helps you unleash your creativity. As long as it’s edible, and you’re willing to try it, go ahead. Camping is all about the adventure—and so is your palette.

3. Grilled Barbecue Chicken and Vegetables in Foil

For this next one, we’re straying from the sandwiches and burgers theme we’ve got going on. How would you like to have some tender, flavorful chicken that’s covered in sweet barbecue sauce and cooked on the grill?

This recipe serves 4 people. You’ll need 8 aluminum foil sheets that are large enough to wrap around one chicken breast. Prepare 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, that are 4 ounces each. You’ll also need ½ cup of your favorite barbecue sauce, 1 zucchini, 1 red, green or yellow bell pepper, 8 asparagus spears, extra virgin olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Slice the zucchini into thin rounds, and slice the bell pepper into thin strips.

For each foil pack, you’ll need to prepare two sheets of aluminum foil. Place the sheets one on top of the other to make sure it’s durable. Next, place one chicken breast on each stacked pair of foil sheets, and season with salt and pepper. Then brush each chicken breast with 1 to 2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce.

Divide the vegetables equally and arrange them around each chicken breast—you can also season the vegetables with salt and pepper.

Drizzle chicken and vegetables with a little olive oil, before folding the sides of the foil over the chicken. Cover it completely, and seal the packets. All you have to do now is transfer these foil packets to the preheated grill rack. Cook for up to 25 minutes, or until done.

The chicken is done when the thermometer reads 165 F. Enjoy this delicious chicken grilled barbecue chicken that’s perfect for those who don’t find burgers filling enough. Camping can be exhausting, and this is one heavy meal to keep your energy levels up.

4. Chili Campfire Bake

This isn’t your typical meal, but it’s a hit with the kids, and you might just love it too! It’s quick and easy to make, and surely one of the most unique camping food recipes out there. You can make it over the fire, it serves 6 people, and it only takes 15 minutes to prepare—it’s the perfect campfire recipe!

For this you’ll need 1 box or 16 ounces of elbow macaroni pasta, 1 can of chili, 1 bag of corn chips (about 7 ounces) and ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
Instructions

Just pour the whole box of pasta into a large skillet that’s approximately 12 inches in diameter. Next, pour 3 cups of cold water into the skillet, making sure that the water covers the pasta. Turn the burner to high, and let it cook for 10 minutes. You can add some salt to taste.

Once almost all of the liquid has evaporated, you can add the chili and bring it to a simmer. Remove from heat, top it with corn chips and cheddar cheese, and then serve immediately.

That’s how easy it is. Enjoy it with your kids—they’ll love it.

5. S’mores Bars

We’ve made meals and snacks, now how about some dessert?

There’s a reason why s’mores are so common during camping season. It’s the go-to snack of every camper out there ‘cause it’s so easy to prepare. And you can make it by the fire. But here we’re going to take it just a little further, by making s’mores bars.

With this recipe, you can actually serve 12 people. It’s an awesome s’mores dessert with a chocolate ganache filling and crushed graham crackers. It might just become your all-time favorite dessert, once you get home from camping!

So for the chocolate ganache, you’ll need 1 cup of heavy cream, and 1 ½ cups of semi sweet chocolate chips.

As for the crust, you’ll have to prepare 4 ounces of whole graham crackers, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons plus two teaspoons of melted butter, and 1 ½ cups of mini marshmallows.

How To Make Campfire Smores
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F before anything else. Lightly butter an 8×8 baking pan and line it with parchment paper. Set that aside.

In a small pot, warm the cream over a medium flame. Turn off the heat once the cream starts to bubble around the edges. Add the chocolate chips and slowly stir with a wooden spoon until it becomes well combined into a thick ganache. Set it aside and allow it to cool for a little bit.

Crush the graham crackers into fine crumbs and then transfer to a bowl. Add the sugar and melted butter, then mix well until all of the graham crackers are moist enough. Transfer this crumb mixture to the prepared baking pain, and press the crumbs gently with a cup or any flat-bottomed vessel. Bake it in the oven for up to 7 minutes and then let cool.

Once the crumbs are cool, pour the ganache on top of the crumbs. Spread out evenly. Place it in the fridge until the ganache becomes firm. Then place the marshmallows on top of the ganache. Cover as much of it as you can. Keep them in one layer.

Place the pan under a preheated broiler and broil until the marshmallows turn toasted or golden. Remember that they only take a minute or less to brown.

Finally, it’s ready to serve. Cut it into squares and serve at once. You may also keep it in the fridge if you’re going to eat it the next day.

Ready to hit your local campsire, or head out and explore a new one? Well gear up in style. Who said camping can’t look good? Certainly not us! Check out our camping apparel.
