Chet “The Jet” Walker

he may have been born in Mississippi, but “The Jet” played his high school ball at Benton Harbor and has always been classed as a product of Michigan. After leading Bradley University to the NIT Championship, Walker was drafted by the Syracuse Nationals before they became the Philadelphia 76ers after his rookie season. A seven-time NBA All-Star, Walker linked up with Wilt Chamberlain to win the 1967 NBA Championship. The Hall-of-Famer has had his number 31 jersey retired by Bradley University and remains a legend for the 76ers and his later team, the Chicago Bulls.

George “The Iceman” Gervin

How many players have a cooler nickname than George “The Iceman” Gervin? The answer would be none with the NBA all-star having one of the most complex playing careers in the history of the league. Gervin was born in Detriot and played at Martin Luther King High before joining Long Beach State in California. Gervin returned home to Michigan after one semester and joined Eastern Michigan State before being banned for punching a Roanoke player. Gervin would go on to play for the San Antonio Spurs where he made nine All-Star appearances before joining Michael Jordan for a single season with the Chicago Bulls.

Shane Battier

Battier won the Mr. Basketball award while studying at Detroit County Day School before spending four years at Duke where he won a National Championship.
