Thanksgiving Day Football Games 2018

Believe it or not, Thanksgiving Day is already just about here. It is definitely a special occasion for feeling thankful while enjoying turkey and pumpkin pie. And it is also a day for enjoying some great NFL football matchups. Here are the games you do not want to miss and details on how to watch them.

Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions

First up on Thanksgiving, you can watch the Chicago Bears at the Detroit Lions. The game starts at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time. The matchup is on CBS, and you can likely watch it even if you do not have cable or satellite TV simply by using an antenna with your TV. Check before the big game starts to find out what channel CBS is in your local area. Make sure all your equipment is working properly ahead of time so you do not miss one moment of Thanksgiving day football fun.

The NFC North game will be an intense rivalry between the two teams from major Midwest cities. The Lions just lost to the Bears 34-22 in Chicago on November 11. Going into the pre-Thanksgiving weekend, the Bears have 6 wins and 3 losses. The Lions are the complete opposite, with 3 wins and 6 losses. That said, the Lions tend to rally in Thanksgiving games, as their record for those is 4-1 over the past 10 years. But the Bears will be giving it their all on Thanksgiving, as they need to win the game while working toward trying for an NFC wild card plus the NFC North title.

The Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford and coach Matt Patricia face Bears’ quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and coach Matt Nagy. Interestingly, both coaches are new to their teams. If you are a Michigan native, you should either don a Lions jersey or another Michigan state pride shirt.

Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys

Once you have settled into your relaxing chair and perhaps gotten another piece of apple or pumpkin pie, it will be time for the next big game of the day. The Washington Redskins will be playing the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time. This game will be broadcast on FOX, which is typically a channel you can get with an external antenna attached to your TV. But that configuration depends on your TV and your local channels, so make sure you set up and test out your connection before the game. If you have cable, satellite or any other provider of that type, you can easily watch the game there.  Shop our Texas clothing here.

Just verify before the game starts what channel FOX is in your local area. Remember that the FOX channel showing this game is different from FOX News and other FOX channels.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott meets Redskins quarterback Alex Smith, while Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett challenges Redskins head coach Jay Gruden.

Both teams are from the NFC East, and the Redskins have had 6 wins and 3 losses going into the pre-Thanksgiving weekend. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have had 4 wins and 5 losses for the same time period.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

To round out an exciting day of turkey, gratitude and football, the Atlanta Falcons will travel to Louisiana to meet the New Orleans Saints for a game that kicks off at 8:20 p.m. Eastern time. This game will be broadcast on NBC, and as is true with the two earlier games of the day, you can watch it using a simple antenna that you connect to your TV. You do not need cable or satellite, but check your local channel listings to be sure. If you do have cable, satellite or some other paid TV provider, you can watch the game that way. Just check before the game starts to verify what channel number NBC is in your area.

This might prove to be the most exciting football game of the day, although as any sports fan knows, anything can happen in any game at any time. It will be a matchup between seasoned and skilled Saints quarterback Drew Brees and rival Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. Both teams are from the NFC South and will undoubtedly be eager to play at their best level in such an important and much-watched game.

But the Saints likely have a strong advantage, because they have had 8 wins and only 1 loss going into the pre-Thanksgiving weekend, whereas the Falcons have had 4 wins and 5 losses for the same time period. And of course, the Saints have the home field advantage complete with tons of cheering fans.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn challenges Saints head coach Sean Payton in this grand finale to the holiday of football and fun.

Get ready for an exciting Thanksgiving Day, because there is a grand feast of food and football set to take place. There are indeed many reasons to count your blessings. Enjoy the games and the holiday!
